1. Consultation (45 minutes)

Meet one-on-one with your board-certified endodontist. Teeth can have various types of cracks, and not all are worrisome. Depending on the location and extent of the crack, we can provide you with a better understanding of the prognosis of your tooth. Your consultation includes a specialized 3D x-ray (Cone Beam CT) of your teeth to ensure a highly accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plan.

2. Comfort Amenities

Your comfort is a top priority. If you’re in pain, we’ll see you quickly. During your endodontic procedure, you’ll enjoy a soft blanket, aromatherapy, music, and anything else you need to feel at ease. We offer pain-free anesthesia and sedation options, including nitrous and oral sedation.

3. Root Canal
Procedure (1 hour)

If root canal therapy is indicated, we may be able to give you treatment on the same day to help ease your discomfort. Using the latest dental technology, your endodontist will remove the inflamed or infected pulp, carefully clean and disinfect the canal system, and then fill and seal the canals.

4. Returning Home

We’ll provide detailed aftercare instructions once your cracked tooth treatment is complete. It’s important to keep a close eye on how the cracked tooth heals after treatment. We might need you to come back to our office in 2-3 weeks for another check-up or additional treatment. Rest assured, we’ll be here to support you every step of the way.

Do you need a root canal?

Empowering your oral health decisions

Is it possible for a cracked tooth to repair itself?
No, a cracked tooth cannot heal on its own and may worsen over time without proper intervention. This could lead to significant pain, discomfort, and even tooth loss. At Endodontic Excellence, we offer research-based specialized treatment for cracked teeth. Our approach can effectively seal even deep cracks, extending the overall lifespan of your tooth.

What causes cracked teeth?

The source of your cracked tooth could be from:

  • Grinding your teeth
  • Excessive force to one tooth
  • Large fillings that weaken your tooth
  • Untreated tooth decay
  • Biting down on something hard
  • Trauma to the face, head, or mouth, such as a car accident or sports injury

How should I prevent a cracked tooth?

To prevent a cracked tooth, we recommend the following:

  • Don’t chew on ice, popcorn kernels, pens, hard candy, or other hard objects.
  • Don’t clench or grind your teeth.
  • If you clench or grind your teeth while sleeping, speak with your general dentist about getting a nightguard.
  • Receive Botox® injections in your jaw muscles to reduce the involuntary grinding/clenching of your teeth at night.
  • Wear a mouthguard when playing contact sports.

When is a root canal procedure the best treatment for a cracked tooth?

A cracked tooth can let bacteria reach the nerve system, leading to tissue damage and pain. This may cause an inflammation and/or infection that can spread to the surrounding bone and gum tissue. Root canal treatment can help not only stop the disease and pain but also prolong the life of your tooth. Endodontic treatment can help stop pain and prolong the life of your tooth.
